Balance in Motion: More Than Staying Upright

Balance is something most of us use every day without thinking about it. For many of the individuals we work with at Butterfly Dreams Farm, though, staying centered and steady can take much more effort.

Balance looks different for every rider

Our riders include people with cerebral palsy, autism, developmental delays, neurological conditions, low muscle tone, sensory processing differences, and other physical or developmental needs. For one person, progress may be sitting taller. For another, it may be reaching, turning, shifting weight, or staying centered with less support.

Why the horse helps

As a horse walks, the rider’s body is constantly responding to movement in several directions. Those small adjustments engage the core and can support posture, coordination, stability, and body awareness.

Balance is more than staying upright. It can also build confidence, independence, and trust in what the body can do. That’s the kind of progress we love to see at Butterfly Dreams Farm.
