You might hear our therapists say āreach acrossā or ātouch the opposite sideā during a riding session ā but whatās really happening is something powerful: crossing the midline.
⨠What does that mean?
Crossing the midline is when a person moves a hand, foot, or eye across the center of their body to the other side ā like reaching the right hand across to touch the left stirrup.
š” Why it matters at Butterfly Dreams:
This simple movement is crucial for brain development, helping build connections between the left and right sides of the brain. It improves:
ā Coordination
š Reading and writing skills
š§ Cognitive processing
šÆ Focus and attention
In our equine-assisted sessions, we build these movements into fun, purposeful activities ā like reaching for rings, tossing beanbags, or high-fiving!
š These moments may look like play, but theyāre laying the foundation for lifelong skills. One midline cross at a time, our riders are making incredible strides.
