🧠 Teaching Tuesday: Why We Cross the Midline šŸŽ

You might hear our therapists say ā€œreach acrossā€ or ā€œtouch the opposite sideā€ during a riding session — but what’s really happening is something powerful: crossing the midline.

✨ What does that mean?

Crossing the midline is when a person moves a hand, foot, or eye across the center of their body to the other side — like reaching the right hand across to touch the left stirrup.

šŸ’” Why it matters at Butterfly Dreams:

This simple movement is crucial for brain development, helping build connections between the left and right sides of the brain. It improves:

āœ‹ Coordination

šŸ“š Reading and writing skills

🧠 Cognitive processing

šŸŽÆ Focus and attention

In our equine-assisted sessions, we build these movements into fun, purposeful activities — like reaching for rings, tossing beanbags, or high-fiving!

🌈 These moments may look like play, but they’re laying the foundation for lifelong skills. One midline cross at a time, our riders are making incredible strides.
